$1300 for a Porsche 914 has to be a NP, right?
Hmmmm ... Maybe not!

I dreamt last night that I rear-ended and rolled over an old Porsche. Stay away from me if you know what’s good for you.

The cracking fiberglass and bindi is scary, but not as scary as the rust underneath. And in 200% positive that there is rust underneath

Not cheap enough... Crack Pipe at anything over $500

Your decimal point is still two places too far to the right.

That car has negative value.

That car has negative value. Maybe if it had a cool steering wheel...

I think you might be low-balling your estimate!

I don't think it's a smart buy at $500 either. Although at that price I'd be tempted to make a rallycross beater put of it.

Duly noted!

Oh come on. Every car has a scrap/parts value. And whatever that is for a 914, that's what this is worth.

Hell no!

There’s an easy test:
Jack up one wheel of the car. Raise that wheel 9 inches off the floor.
If the other three wheels keep in contact with the pavement? Run the fuck away. Fast.

I would be willing to bet that at least two wheels are still on the ground. Or the jack will just punch through where you're lifting it.

That 914 unibody was incredibly stiff when it left the factory. Regrettably (this is un-like the X1/9) the areas they were most likely to accumulate serious rust were also the areas where the structural integrity was compromised.
What is known as “the hell hole” was prone to significant water collection... and a rot through there basically is the “chassis stiffness” turning into a piece of wet, over-cooked pasta .

Good to know! I'm not in the market, as I just stumbled into this one while randomly browsing, but I do like the 914.

It should be “the next Porsche worth preserving”... but it’s hard to find good examples. It was so much better than the 912, so it’s ironic to see 912s sell for $50K and bad-roller 914s sell for $500.
But, hell-hole...

There aren’t enough good parts on this car to make it worth parting it out. You will spend far too much time removing the few parts that you can sell, and those parts will be in such bad shape that they won’t bring in any money. The scrap metal value of the rest isn’t going to cover your losses.

At $500, it’s 24 hours of Lemons eligible

Well I didn’t say it was a nice price at $500... just DEFINITELY crack pipe over $500

Np for a p arts car. I can see through the floor, so I’m guessing the side clamshells are rotted. and then theres the questionable body work. If it had t he transmission it would be worth alone a few k. The engine could be worth close to that much as a core. the car did have the 5lug conversion that alone is worth @500 in parts. It has the dual twin carb conversion, which is @1k inparts.

Oh wow!

I should note without the FI the engine only worth 500-800. depending if 1.8 or 2.0. I don’t how the duel twin carbs would play into that.

No worries. I'm not buying it, but it's interesting how specific things on certain vehicles can be worth more than you would think.

My dad and I have bought a couple parts cars. One we bought @2004 for the fuel pump, as the car was super botched repaired after an accident in the 70s that the original owner drove it is nuts.
Funnyu we picked up one 2 years ago. We stop down the road to get lunch . And we’re sitting on the trailer and the owner comes out “is that the car out on route XX” he then starts asking what we’re going to do, how he was thinking of buying it etc “uh we’re going to use it for parts”. This guy was devistated, this thing was rust with some useful bits on it. As we were tighting down the straps, we were stretching the car. he whole underside was gone with the tires flat on the ground and t he trailing arms were paper thin with holes.

My wallet is happy though. Plus, if I dragged that thing home, my wife would make me live in it.
